The Peony is a flower which has great significance in both Asian and European culture and mythology, as well having inspired great art through the ages. I have always been obsessed with this beautiful flower, especially having discovered over a decade ago, the wonderful 'Jardin des Bagatelles' situated in the Paris 'Bois de Boulogne', where during each summer, hundreds of different peony plants put on a spectacular show. I have used my bi-annual visits to family as a wonderful opportunity to spend many afternoons in the garden, sketching, painting and photographing that magic moment of light and shadow play on these spectacular blooms. This series features canvas edges which are 23ct gold gilded.

Australia
Originally from Vanuatu and a graphic designer for most of her professional life, Myriam is now based in the Kangaroo Valley, Australia, where she now paints full-time. She first studied Fine Arts at Sydney University in the late 60s, and continued to hone her skills by attending various art institutions such SVA, the Sydney Julian Ashton School, the Florence Academy of Art, NYSS and more recently JSS in Civita For the last few years Myriam has been exploring her fascination with mythology and commedia dell’arte, the characters and their relationship to the subconscious. Her approach to the subject is directed by her love of figure drawing and her fascination in the communicative power of body language and its gestures. This interest extends to mythical fruits and plants, including both the pomegranate and the peony, for which she has a special fondness – both are important in western and eastern mythology. Myriam’s style is mostly realistic and representational, and she enjoys painting figurative and still life subjects in oils as well as in watercolor mediums. www.myriamkinyee.com
