The Biography of a Visual Artist, Sir Mbonu Christopher Emerem (International Artist from Nigeria) Sir Mbonu Christopher Emerem was born on December 8, 1957. He hails from Uburuekwe Autonomous Community in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, Africa. Awarded: “Mejor Artista Expositor” (“Best Artist Exhibitor”) to Mbonu C. Emerem, certified by the vote of the attending public and the jury, in the Second edition of the International Art Fair ‘Mar del Sur,’ Mar del Sur, Buenos Aires, Argentina, February 16th, 2009. Mr. Mbonu Christopher Emerem was awarded “Best Corper Artist Award” by Maj.- General Mohammadu Buhari, the then Nigerian Military Head of State, during the “1983/84 Head of State N.Y.S.C. Honours Award Ceremony” that was held at the National Arts Theater, Iganmu, Lagos, Nigeria. 1984. Among the invited nineteen (19) participant artists (each artist representing the then 19-State structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria), Mr Mbonu Christopher Emerem was also adjudged the “Best Corper Artist” at the Federal level. The three award winning paintings were bought by the then Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Youths Service Corps (N.Y.S.C.) Directorate Headquarters, Lagos, and Mr Mbonu Christopher Emerem was personally requested to make the presentation of the portrait painting to the then Nigerian Military Head of State himself, Major-General Mohammadu Buhari. It was ovation galore as the Head of Sate unveiled his own portrait during the ceremony. Awarded: “Diploma of Participation” of the International Biennale of Contemporary Arts, ''Arad Biennale 2005'', Arad, Romania, in which over 200 artists who participated in the Arad Biennale came from more than 45 different countries and 4 continents. 2005. In 2011, Sir Mbonu Emerem, was one of the 30 International Artists selected in Italy from 11 countries: Italy, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Spain, India, USA, Portugal, Brazil, Nigeria and Costa Rica, to exhibit from February 11, 2011 March 21, 2011, in Ventipertrenta in Tecate, Baja Califonia, Mexico. The artists were selected from the participants in the various editions made in Italy. In the exhibition there are some of the artworks that were awarded by the international jury and also some of those which the audience decided to reward, through surveys.
