ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work was created on, and during, my first Bastille Day in Paris. An artist friend of mine with this view of the Eiffel Tower organized a painting party for the celebrations. Happy to not be stuck in the very crowded lawn in front of the tower, I gladly enjoyed the stellar sights from the comforts of my friend's apartment overlooking a peaceful park. The scene was too pristine not to paint : the glow of the city cheering amidst the twilight and incredible lightshow. For this piece, I primarily used one flat head brush to weave the colors together in rectangle blocks. The colors were borrowed from the gentle evening of the city itself, glows of various hues pouring from various apartments onto the park with full summer foliage below. Even the sky danced in that sunset while we sipped wine to cheers our liberty borrowed from our new home. A palette knife was used to scratch out those fireworks, dragging the white flames through the cerulean night sky. The industrial strokes of the tower were carved to the canvas in contrast to all the pastel colors. Pastel colors still fleck the tower in an attempt to capture the laser light projections and glow of the fireworks themselves. Liberté, égalité, sororité.

A historically American woman, aspiring adapting and attempting Parisienne. I left my American capitalist hellscape behind for... an equally challenging environment abroad. Much like explorers of yesterday, equipped with my limited perspective and a fumbly sextant of the spirit for navigation, I try to find my position in our vast cosmos leaving everything I knew behind except a suitcase full of paint, brushes, and ambition.
