Jorinde is somewhat of a nomad. She was born to mixed parents in Germany, raised in Taiwan, and educated in the UK and France. In the winter of 2013 she fell in love with Iceland during an artist residency at SÍM, and decided to make this her home in 2019. She trained in illustration in Paris, and later specialised in ceramics at Camberwell College of Arts, one of the top art schools in London, following in the footsteps of a long history of British studio ceramics. Jorinde's work is often playful, sometimes even cheeky, but she also has a strong appreciation for the quiet beauty of the Icelandic landscape and Japanese Zen philosophy. A hybrid by nature, she instinctively brings together contrasting elements, such as reality and imagination, harsh explicitness and fluffy dreamy unicorns. As a result, her work often leaves space for contemplation, just like the occasional rough edge and finger dimples she purposely leaves on the clay; but her work is also almost always warm and kind-hearted, because life is hard enough as it is. Jorinde has shown and sold her work in Reykjavik, Taipei, Tokyo, London, New York, and Paris.
