ABOUT THE ARTWORK
From the "Belt-Sander Painting" series, this work explores the formal and conceptual relationships between new and worn-out layers of various materials. The series was inspired by urban redevelopment in ancient cities as well as the graffiti that is continually evolving in those places. The decaying old structures and images directly coexist next to the new. The old also often re-emerge through the new due to natural erosion or wear. The viewer is invited to meditate on the contrast and harmony that can exist between different stages of time.
