ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A continuation of a series I started recently. The beautifully mundane hanging out in plain sight amongst the “glitz and glamour” of Hollywood. Five paint buckets discarded outside of a large soundstage on a Hollywood backlot. The doorways to these stages are massive and are referred to as “elephant doors”. A large rolling door on a track is pushed open and closed to keep unwanted light and sound out. Built this way to be able to move massive equipment and set pieces in and out of the stage they are truly unique in their look - often times they have a cavernous feeling to them. Thank you for taking the time to view my artwork.

Alex Selkowitz is a fine art oil painter who resides in Los Angeles, CA. After spending decades in the film industry as a lighting technician he has brought his knowledge of light, shadows and composition to his passion of fine art. He is inspired by the bright Southern California light and colorful sunsets. His subjects range from dense urban concrete environments to the sprawl of suburbia littered with green spaces. Common everyday human made objects occupy his paintings which represent the human presence but his paintings typically are devoid of any humans. Painting in an impressionistic style his artworks evoke a calm liminal feeling and a dream like quality.
