ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, where Ahalya is turned to stone by her husband and is brought back to life by Lord Rama. I see her as having been betrayed by her creator Brahma who gives her to the sage Gautami for safekeeping, by the lord of Heaven Indra who is so infatuated with her that he disguises himself as her husband and rapes her, her husband who sees her as an adulteress. The rock symbolises her with the blue image of a woman who wants to be set free. Which she achieves only through Rama, symbolised in the painting by the bow and the footprint.
