About The Artwork

Bharatanatyam art form is considered the oldest classical dance heritage of India, originally performed in the Hindu temples in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and eventually performed all over the world. Conventionally it’s considered a solo dance, mostly performed by women. I loved painting this gorgeous sari, a one piece garment that is stitched in pleats below the waist and her spectacular footwork showcasing the sari widening up like a hand fan. The intricate details like the ghunghru - the musical anklets, long plaited hair, and the traditional jewelry brought her art form to life.

The pseudonym of Radhika Rammoorthy is ArtzyRads I am a self taught artist. Right from childhood, drawing & painting formed an extension of my expression and dabbling in colors epitomized freedom and excitement. Born in Bangalore, raised in different cities in India and in the African subcontinent, cultural observations of varied lifestyles added myriad perspectives to my art. Made Chennai, the temple city of India, my home, the traditional dance forms inspired my paintings. My paintings bring rich color and is not restricted to any particular subject. I love to explore the unknown and move away from the mundane, thus bringing diverse forms of subjects, materials, mediums and paintings techniques. While I have made a career in the disability sector in India for over two decades, painting kindles the creative passion in me and it makes me feel the world is indeed a beautiful place to live!
