ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Oil painting with a scene of a man playing tennis. But it is not a usual tennis, its a tenis for paraolimpic games. I’m interested in this theme, because I’m also a disabled person. I can play tennis, like most sportsmen. But I had the opportunity to try myself in a game on a wheelchair. It turned out to be very difficult. My movements were shackled. The ability to move freely on the site was limited. And I could barely understand how to control the wheelchair and have time to hit the ball with only two hands. And I wanted to devote my artwork to the courage, willpower and strong character that have all Olympic games sportsmen. And this painting is showing a man with a great zeal to win, with a strong and developed body, with powerful arms. And the chair here is not an obstacle for him. He is stronger than external circumstances. He uses every opportunity to realize his goals. It is painted in bright, rich colours. It can be attributed to impressionistic or expressionistic styles. Artwork was created in 2020.

Searching for my own path in painting took me a certain time. It has passed nine years since my first attempts to paint. However, during last several years I have started feeling self-assured, as my works reached desired level of skilfulness and artistic approach, and I really started liking them. Currently my love to post-impressionist artists' paintings became especially strong. I am often inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Albert Marquet, and Latvian artist Janis Valters. Most of all I value coloristic beauty of their works as well as the artists’ ability to show the weather conditions and the state of the nature with one brush stroke. Now I look into the future with greater confidence, think over new creative plans, and expect fulfilling them!
