ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My current work gravitates toward the use of basic shapes. I purposely reduces the shapes edges with paint. The organic elements are enclosed in space as if free floating and defined by a solid contrasting color. I further apply reductive markings and scrapings to reveal layers of paint which adds to the depth and interest of the work. This piece has reductive color shapes of black and very pale blue blocks fused together and set against a light grey background. This is a very textured piece with many layers of wax and gypsum.

I am an abstract painter expressing my work by exploring the relationship between nature and our environment. Using dialogue between the two can be my best source of inspiration. The tactility of multiple textures and building of layers, are the backbones of my pieces. The severity of the elements can age and weather and create the most interesting designs. The distressed look of patina on metal and dilapidating walls intrigues me by their abstract surfaces and patterns. These textures and layers give depth and dimension to my paintings and are common elements in all my series. I currently live and work in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.
