ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The artist took the reference material for this painting while having a picnic and drinking rose with these two ladies at the beach. Don't worry, I'm told the glasses were shatterproof. This piece wasn't planned, but the differing skin tones from the light and shadow inspired the artist to record the scene. Seth Harris tends to compose work in a style that points to the Baroque period. This painting is no exception. It was the product of a lengthy glazing process using materials that have been proven over the centuries.

Seth Harris is a contemporary American painter. His figurative paintings often portray dancers, particularly women, from the New York City social dance scene. His work is strongly influenced by the oil paintings of Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and Sargent. His use of heavy texture puts his style somewhere between realism and impressionism. Born in Annapolis, MD in 1983, he received a Naval Architecture degree from NY Maritime in 2005. He lived on US flagged ships working as a merchant mariner until late 2010 when he became the artist in residence at a small Brooklyn art house. He regularly exhibits at the National Art League and the Salmagundi Club in New York City.
