ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Inspired by historical architectural blueprint techniques, Kaufmann paints with cyanotype and creates the piece with sun and shadows from 3-dimensional objects. The art is created by the sun and time and then set with water and air with the result being a 2-dimensional exposure from a 3-dimensional object. The end result is a deep velvety blue from the sun and white and light blue from shadows. This particular piece was inspired by figure-ground city plans and the interconnection between buildings through sun and shadow throughout the day. The shadow exposures are created from morning, mid-day and late afternoon sun.
