ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting was inspired by a documentary on a lunar eclipse that I watched. I was deeply touched by the beauty of it and couldn't get the color of the moon out of my head so I had to capture it on canvas.

I started painting in my early childhood as a means of self-expression. Due to unfortunate family circumstances, I was forced to leave school at the age of 16 and left my parents‘ home at the same time. Without having gratuated school, it was not possible for me to attend university, so I decided to attend an art school (Freie Kunstschule Stuttgart). After 2 years at that school I began travelling and moved to Torremolinos/Spain for a year where I became part of a small artist community working on several projects like murals. From Torremolinos I moved to Düsseldorf and took a detour into music. I became one of the first female musicians in post-punk and belonged to a clique centered on the legendary „Ratinger Hof“ in Düsseldorf (famous for the creative scene that used to team up in this club, as well as the concerts of many bands who played only in „Ratinger Hof“ and nowhere else in Germany). I played the bass guitar, drums and electronic percussion and joined bands like „Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft“ (DAF) and „Die Krupps“; later I was featured in the books „ElectriCity“ (a book on the Düsseldorf music scene) and „Das ist DAF“. After 10 years in Rock'n Roll I turned back to painting. Whereas I used to work with drawing chalks, I now mostly use Oil and Acrylic Colors, preferably on Canvas, using a spatula, a piece of coal or sponges. My work shows the spectrum of human emotion from its darkest sides (i.e. „Suicide“ or the series „Tatort/Crime Scene“) to the brighter ones (for example the series „Seaside“). I also create colorfield paintings and others that are solely dedicated to colors like the „3 Farben“ series or „Untitled No. 3“ and „Untitled No. 4“. From Düsseldorf I moved to Berlin just when the Berlin Wall came down and focused on Photography for a while, taking historical photographs of the Wall being taken down and the rapid changes in Berlin. Some years later I moved to Hamburg -where I currently live and work - and returned to painting once more.
