ABOUT THE ARTWORK

30x30cm (12” square) Unframed (can be framed on request) painted edges ( ready to hang) Signed on the reverse ABOUT THE COLLECTION The Blooms collection is related to the artists recent sell-out exhibition Release - Paintings inspired by stories of letting go. Genevieve Leavold created these nine Bloom Paintings celebrating the feeling of release - expansion outwards into a new form expressing the feeling of renewal and growth. They are playful, colourful blooms of paint, made with deft stokes into layered glazes. Three layers of colour are applied to the canvas - the first - A dark ground is painted and a motif is carved into the paint surface to give a textured structure to the painting. Then glazes are applied to build the delicate floral arrangements on top. Genevieve Leavold has a signature style of soft flowing brushwork, giving her work a very emotional quality. The collection takes the viewer through seasons - the palettes reflecting the changing colours of flora. Accentuated by contract to the dark background. ABOUT THE PAINTING Bloom 4 - is Summer into Autumn - The colours shifting from pinks into bronzed leaves, and the forms reducing. ABOUT THE ARTIST Genevieve Leavold takes inspiration from folk art and the dutch flower paintings - using a very dark background to accentuate the colours of her work. Genevieve Leavold is a British abstract Painter based in Frome, U.K. Predominantly known for her freeform, organic paintings, her reverence for spontaneous gesture in her paintings draws from Zen, Buddhism and other ancient Eastern philosophies which embrace the beauty of purposelessness and play. Her whole approach is one of immediacy, working wet colour into wet and layering glazes gives her work its recognisable softness and form. b.1980 Somerset UK. Genevieve Leavold originally trained and worked in Theatre Design before taking the decision to return her focus to painting. She completed studio courses at Central Saint Martin in 2007 and 2012. She has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe and the USA and has work in private and corporate collections worldwide.
