Genevieve Leavold created these nine Bloom Paintings celebrating the feeling of release - expansion outwards into a new form expressing the feeling of renewal and growth. They are playful, colourful blooms of paint, made with deft stokes into layered glazes. Three layers of colour are applied to the canvas - the first - A dark ground is painted and a motif is carved into the paint surface to give a textured structure to the painting. Then glazes are applied to build the delicate floral arrangements on top. Genevieve Leavold has a signature style of soft flowing brushwork, giving her work a very emotional quality. The collection takes the viewer through seasons - the palettes reflecting the changing colours of flora. Accentuated by contract to the dark background.
