‘Blue Valley’ is an abstract landscape that embodies the idea of hope. I made this painting during a period of transition and uncertainty in my own life and through the process of creating this painting, I came to terms with the idea of change. This is an optimistic painting that acts as a reminder that no matter how challenging or long the journey may be, you will eventually reach that serene destination you are working towards. ‘Blue Valley’ captures the moment of arrival at a brilliant and thriving valley in the midst of nature but it is also a metaphor for the satisfaction of reaching your goal and and the excitement for what lies ahead. The colours of ‘Blue Valley’ are harmonious and soothing and represent the colours of life; blue and green. The sense of being in the midst of nature is important to this painting. The shapes are loose so that the viewer may imagine and interpret the scene as they would like. Nature and landscapes have been a big part of my imaginative world since my early childhood due to a nomadic upbringing as the daughter of an Indian army officer. Abstract landscapes in particular interest me because they allow space for the viewer to imagine, interpret and remember scenes through the cues and suggestions present in the painting. I make spontaneous works that allow me to tap into my subconscious mind and create images from memory or imagination. Painting is an act of discovery for me every time I pick up the brush and this sense of wonderment is something that I desire to share with the viewer.
