Jana Charl is a Los Angeles–born, dual U.S.–Swiss artist currently based in Portland, Oregon. Working across disciplines, she creates mixed-media paintings, sculptures, and installations that frequently incorporate materials salvaged from her surroundings. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally at galleries and institutions including SFMOMA, Tate Liverpool, and the Women’s Museum of California, as well as at venues staged in parallel with the Venice Biennale, Frieze London, and Art Basel Miami. Charl has participated in five artist residencies in Spain (Úbeda, Andalusia), Switzerland (Zürich and Trélex), the Republic of Georgia (Mtskheta and Tbilisi), and Iceland (Stöðvarfjörður, East Fjords). She has been awarded public art commissions in California, Oregon, and Massachusetts, and received a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Assembly. Her work is held in the collections of the Brooklyn Art Library, the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, the Museum of Nova Gorica (Slovenia), the Mtskheta Municipality, the Yuko Nii Foundation, and private collections worldwide.
