~Bobby Fischer~ Oil on canvas, 10x12 inch (25.5x30.5cm) This compact piece depicts the eccentric American chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer. Painted with rapid and expressive brushstrokes, the technique parallels the complex and troubled character of Fischer. The portrait is of a young Fischer, in 1971, the year before he became World Champion. Widely considered the greatest chess player of all time, Fischer was a controversial figure; arrogant, eccentric and demanding, he went into virtual hiding for much of his life. Fischer died in 2008, but is remembered as one of the most interesting characters the intellectual world has ever known.

My name is Michael Nicholson, and I am a 21 year old artist from Adelaide, Australia. I have been painting for around 5 years, without any formal training. I attended secondary school at St. Peter's College, and am finishing degrees in Law and Media at the University of Adelaide.
