Juliette Kalse is geboren (1959) in Iran en woonde daar tot ze tien jaar was. Ze blijft zich bewust van haar Perzische roots en verwerkt dit in haar kunstwerken. Ze is altijd op zoek naar de verbinding tussen de twee landen in zichzelf. “Vanuit een voortdurend rondgaan in denken aan Iran en Nederland en al mijn ervaringen daar, is dit schilderij tot stand gekomen. De totaal verschillende culturen brachten mij tot het zoeken naar contrasten en verbindingen en het beeldend uitdrukken daarvan. Het gevoel uit zich in een chaotische, kleurige wirwar van lijnen en vormen en de ratio in rustig geschilderde geometrische vlakken, die doen denken aan het boteh motief van de Perzische tapijten uit mijn jeugd. In mijn hoofd moesten de contrasten echter ook samenkomen, dus ook het zoeken naar de harmonie binnen een werk was noodzakelijk. Expressie met beide voeten op de grond.
