About The Artwork

This the the lounge of ferry Bowen Queen of the Gulf Islands, BC. The waiting area becomes a designated social area allowing islanders to catch up with friends and acquaintances during the sailing period. Or on a quieter cruise a reprieve; the islands gliding by encouraging reflection and dives into the imagination. The surface painted on is fir plywood, with knots replaced by 'eyes' of wood. Its peeling layered caused by weathering.

I live on the west coast of Canada on a small island where I teach and maintain my studio. My work can be seen in Rhubarb Designs, Ganges, Winchester Galleries, Victoria and on my website. I often include found materials besides using traditional surfaces. I am interested in relationships and how that shapes the composition. My narratives include family, friends, movie stills, media sources, architecture, dreams and daily life. I look for a feeling that is elusive yet familiar, and lies in the construction of the space. The presence of things meeting with the presence of other things including the space, and ideas is an ongoing process that I am witnessing. Studying in the arms of postmodernism, punctuated by eco philosophy, Alice Aycock, Alex Colville, Rainer Fassbinder, and a revived figurative tradition I align myself with folk art, surrealism, psychology, and cinema”
