ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"Bridged" was painted in my third floor studio in Poughkeepsie, NY this past summer of 2019. Inspired by a remembrance of a life-altering challenge that I faced as a young adult, it represents both feelings of being lost and of finding a way to move forward. Visually it may evoke a sense of a bridge out in the deep woods, perhaps covered in mosses and weeping willows, and partially overrun by waters flowing around and through. I hope it inspires the viewer to connect with nature, and the great powers of regeneration held within the earth. This painting was first primed and sanded with layers of gesso to achieve a wood-like feel to the canvas. Layers of paint applied, dried, and sanded to reveal deeper colors and hues. Blending techniques were used to create a sense of continuous flow and movement through space and time. The piece has its own energy and force and will create an impact when shown with a generous amount of wall space around it.

I create from my intuition and love of beauty, from a sense of curiosity and reverence for touching the elegance of nature and flows of life. I experiment in different areas of artistic expression. I create abstract paintings using acrylic, oil, and inks. An idea will be with me for a while and at a certain point it is ready to come into physical form on canvas, board, or paper, or sometimes on an innocent by-standing wall in the house. I create scenes in photography, having spent many hours "walking alone without purpose" with a camera over my shoulder - which I learned to love even though a bit heavy - and a water bottle, in the woods, on beaches, following trails, wandering off-trail, hiking in the mountains, through streams, into grassy fields, and sometimes on city streets. I create digital paintings from my photographs and other elements of digital art, and sometimes with photos of elements of my abstract paintings, to express a type of beauty that for me goes beyond this physical world. I am also a jewelry maker, dancer, and yoga teacher. I create web sites and work with people and animals to nurture the harmony and unspoken language of love.
