This original painting is an abstract interpretation of the sun screens prevalent in late architect Le Corbusier's work. He was one of the first architects I was exposed to in architecture school and I was immediately taken by the prevalence of concrete and clean lines prevalent in his work. Specifi...

Lu Loveless is a Dallas-based painter and designer whose work bridges the worlds of fine art, interior design, and spatial storytelling. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Southern Methodist University (2011) and a Master of Architecture from Tulane University (2016). artist statement My work is rooted in a lifelong love of color and pattern, and in the belief that the spaces we inhabit shape how we feel, move, and understand the world. I’m interested in the everyday environments we often overlook and how the colors, patterns, shadows and lighting in them can alter our emotional state. My background in architecture and interior design informs how I think about space, scale, and composition, and painting is where I can freely indulge textiles, rugs, and décor without the constraints of a client. Naturally drawn to vibrant color and pattern, my work leans toward a spirited and assertive palette. I approach painting with an awareness of the built environment, always considering how a work becomes part of someone's daily experience rather than something separate from it, and how its colors and patterns will find themselves in a room. At its core, my practice is about creating work that feels vibrant, familiar, and rooted in both the digital and physical world. Similar to my interior design practice, I create digital collages using furniture, wallpapers, fabrics and décor I find online, then piece them together in photoshop to create imaginary spaces that feel mostly real. Every room has the feeling that someone may have just left or may be about to arrive. That tension between real and invented is what I’m interested in exploring at the moment, especially at a time when AI has blurred the lines of truth in imagery.
