ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Tiled: “Brother Ray Preach” I draw my inspiration deep from in side my mine and also from my surounding and life experiences. I love the movie making process and have worked in Film for many years now. I’ve enjoyed the G.O.T. series so much I desided to capture my abstract impression of some of my favorite characters,50 painting in all so far.

RMK was born in Beuford S.Carolina in 1961; as a young boy, he was ever present, drawing and honing his craft. He would spend hours studying the masters, as well as the contemporary artists of the time. His love of drawing and the discipline of it left him with work that continues to be his passion to this day. Even though he attempted a College degree in the arts, RMK found that his talent well out-matched those instructing him. This led to teachers dismissing him to spend time with the students of lesser talent; nevertheless he continued to learn and grow in his craft on his own. After leaving Oceanside California in 1982, RMK came to Los Angeles wherein he landed a job for RDI Video Systems: This was the same company that created the game “Dragon Slayer” in 1984. He continued working on his fine art interests at home, spending all of his spare time painting and forming “his style”. Soon enough he was moving up the ladder into the animation world, which meant mystical land of television, and was hired by Filmation Studios in Los Angeles. Not long after being at Filmation, Hanna Barbera became RMK’s next stop in the long chain of studios that he helped create cartoons for, huge names such as ‘Swat Cats’, ‘Johnny Quest’, ‘Flintstones’ ‘Power Rangers’, and ‘Ruby Spears’. He soon became a fulltime Background Painter as well as Layout artist and was responsible for cartoons such as ‘He Man’, ‘Brave Star’ and ‘Shera Prince of Power’. It was during these years Kalafut made the transition to storyboarding and all of the opportunities it afforded him. Working in all medias, Kalafut finds himself excelling in the arts and is able to implement his style of Art into the L.A. Club scene; he created a live performance art style that was geared for that particular type of club. Clubs such as Spice Club, Club Rubber, Chicken Shack, Vertigo and many more found RMK providing the ambiance and esthetic of countless evenings. Still marching on in the animation field, Kalafut made a shift to the Motion Picture Industry, making his film debut on Blake Edwards’s movie ‘Blind Date’ (which also happened to be Bruce Willis’s first feature film); he was the designer that created the Gallery scene in the movie. He designed and created all of the many sculptures, as well as the extremely large paintings; Kalafut also was in charge of all the installation of the art as well as overseeing the construction of the entire Gallery set.
