Bubble Rave Print

Sometimes painters choose a subject due to a fascination and inherent challenge to capture it on the canvas. This was the case with this work where I tried to pull out and distill the qualities that make bubbles so visually stimulating. I was inspired to research this subject thanks to a friend that features bubbles in many of her works. I do not know anyone that can see a stream of bubbles being blown into existence on the wind and not want to catch one. A great human folly all the same, because we all know to catch one most likely means it will pop. Nevertheless, everyone dreams of that chance, maybe one in a million, to have a bubble land on them and stay for a moment, rainbows glistening and oil slicking in front of your eyes. For this work, I began with a dark underpainting to contrast the disco lights of the bubbles. Furthermore, suspending and warping the bright bubble colors against the dark background was a treat in itself. I started by curling swirls of the various rainbow colors in various arcs to loosely define the bubbles. Then, I came in with white with a drier brush to encapsulate each bubble around the color swirls. Finally, some bubbles were given their characteristic corner white reflection to add the missing spherical depth.I love that the bubbles here are not perfect spheres, much like I see them in life with that fluctuating, fleeting hover, a baited breath that could POP at any min---
