About The Artwork

At the moment depicted in this painting, the engines have been decoupled and jettisoned from the primary fuel tank of a booster rocket carrying a space shuttle into orbit around our planet. This image is meant to gently understate the significance of the achievement it depicts. This moment is a threshold between two immense displays of innovation: the scientific and technological breakthroughs that needed to happen in order to get such a massive piece of equipment into space safely carrying as many as five human beings, and the innovative thinking required to maneuver that piece of equipment in the endless vacuum to a point within one or two centimeters of a target, and then bring it back to earth again.

Yotam Zohar was born in Jerusalem. He earned a BFA from the Ohio State University and an MA from Eastern Illinois University, in the United States. His work has been exhibited across the USA and in Europe. He has also produced artwork and props for motion pictures. Zohar consistently earned distinction for his paintings as a student, during which time he created bodies of work that addressed portraiture, the female subject, and the critical value of art forgery. He has since made a name for himself as an educator and a promising talent with his hybrid style of painting, bringing contemporary themes to his unique take on Classical technique. His current body of work focuses on connecting candid public subjects with art viewers through paintings adapted from digital photographs. Zohar lives and works in the San Juan Islands, in Washington.
