Dana N.A. Sirois is a German-Vietnamese artist and designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She focuses on figurative drawing, and finding the right gestural mark to picture the human body on surfaces, as well as on abstract painting where she uses only primary colors, as well as black and white. Her mark making in her drawings represent her emotional state with which she sees the human body: there is a softness, beauty and vulnerability. Her paintings, in contrast to her drawings, explore her expressive personality. She experiments with lots of different ways to apply the paint: using the whole body, splashing water over the painted canvases, applying paint to bundled canvases, or working with masking tape to apply paint neatly are some techniques she has adopted. Her paintings explore the relationship of the unconscious mind and the outside world, requiring the audience to become part of the process.
