Anders Borgenhag Holmqvist is a Swedish painter. He is currently living and working in his hometown of Eskilstuna. His autobiographical figurative paintings focus on questions of existence and personal relationships. Painterly Ambition Since childhood, Borgenhag Holmqvist had an intense interest and ambition to be a painter but was pushed into following a more conventional career path. However, the pull towards painting was too strong and Borgenhag Holmqvist decided to pursue his dream of being a painter by completing a Fine Art degree. Narrative Immersion The inspiration for Borgenhag Holmqvist’s paintings stems from his surroundings and everyday routine. In this way, he allows the viewers to recognize themselves in these familiar scenes and make connections to their own lives. Although at first glance the scenes seem ordinary, there is a certain atmosphere to the paintings that suggest that there is something more than what meets the eye. His works are like a riddle in which you are struggling to find out what is amiss. Collaborative Studio Work Borgenhag Holmqvist owns his own artist studio in Eskilstuna with his wife, Annika, who is also a painter. He has exhibited extensively in various cities around Sweden.
