ABOUT THE ARTWORK
THIS PAINTING WAS, AS THE NAME IMPLIES, INSPIRED BY THE CHALLENGER 7 DISASTER. I WAS IN NEW YORK CITY, ON THE SUBWAY, AND I GOT OFF AT THE 59TH ST. STATION AND WALKED TO THE BACK END OF THE STATION, WHERE THERE WAS AN ENTRANCE TO BLOOMINGDALE'S DEPARTMENT STORE. IT TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS A HUSH IN THE STORE, NONE OF THE USUAL HUSTLE AND BUSTLE. I WALKED PAST THE ELECTRONCS DEPARTMENT AND SAW THAT EVERYONE WAS GATHERED AROUND THE TV'S THAT WERE ON. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THEY REPLAYED THE CHALLENGER EXPLOSION AND SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE CROWD STARTED TO CRY. IT WAS SHOCKING. I PAINTED THIS IMAGE THAT NIGHT.
