About The Artwork
This artwork was made from a single catfish imprinted on heavy grade cotton canvas after it was harvested during an ice fishing trip in Wisconsin, USA. The basic dull blemished background blends with canvas textures to represent murky marine environments catfish live in. The fish colors are a combo of darkened yellows and reds which resembles the natural colors illuminated in its habitat. There was a huge degree of difficulty in imprinting this catfish with one attempt to showcase its body, all its fins and whiskers while displaying a natural movement. This is Colby's closest fish imprint that is a semi 3D perspective. Catfish in general are an overlooked fish species that are considered ugly, not colorful and hardy survivors in poor water environments. The art piece displays that even a catfish can be uniquely beautiful in its own element if one takes the time to take notice of its simple yet defined imagery.
