About The Artwork

‘Close to the Verge’ is open to interpretation. It contains contrasting colours, a rush, a speed and It may be taking one away from, or whooshing one towards an open space or converging towards somewhere instead. Consequently conflicting elements. But is it open space or is it an edge on the tilted horizon that leads to something else? It is an abstract piece after all and it just might as well be a day in a life for most. The rest is up to the viewer. The media used to paint this painting were two types of oils, one which was a regular smooth paint and the other a coarse oil paint, which gave most of the texture that gives a bit more turbulence and added character. Also, a little bit of pigment was sparsely used. The stretched canvas that I used is gallery wrapped and as with many of my paintings, I continued painting on the side facets, incorporating them with the front of the piece. Therefore, no framing is required when hanged on the wall. As for markings, it is signed on the front and has details on the rear side.

Jason is a painter and illustrator of various styles and different media for different ends. Principally a surrealistic and abstract artist, he has a fondness for satire and caricature, with a hint of humour fantasy and the whimsical. Nevertheless, there is a realistic and a sober aspect to some of his work too. His different genres of works are ongoing series which are added to from time to time, whether it is his Aviary, Abstract, Allegoric or any other style he employs. World events, social affairs and politics draw his attention, but he can be inspired by everything and anything seen, heard or felt. His expression can be direct or ambiguous. What is prevalent throughout his work is light, movement and flow, hardly any black is employed, leaning towards enlightenment.
