I am a Cuban Artist based on Havana, Cuba and Hartford, Connecticut. The cultural syncretism of my homeland, along with any ancestral mythology, born from the necessity of Man to understand its reality and to assimilate the symbolism of transformations in search of representing the perpetual questioning of mankind, the search of its possible contemporary parallels and the human relationship with the natural environment, have been the main sources of inspiration for my work from the beginning. On my last Series I have been working on Symbolism and Lyrical Abstraction, exploring the relation between Form and Content, the nexus between the gestures of the emotional impulse and the nature of the material, the forms’ freedom, the chromatic quality of the values, tones, transparencies, and the terrestrial material character of the texture. These Series have derived in thematic Suites where I mixed organic forms, semi-figurative symbols, architectonic structures and ruins with landscapes and imaginary tropical islands. Then, vertical registers that appear connecting the geologic layers form of the Earth with the universal layers of the life and the human condition under some sort of “visual insularity”. Nothing human is strange to my work; the instinct of the primitive subconscious mind, and the conscious reaction of any feeling, passion, or idiosyncratic position, the natural, the mystic, the past and the present, the multiplicity of the message that engage in a dialog with the spectator, attempting to express personal emotions from the universal force of the natural beauty, and the way it interacts with the culture and society.
