ABOUT THE ARTWORK

It's about a moment, i tried to catch the feeling of the first kiss, with cold hands. It was so hard to keep a good composition in a perfect moment, but i think it's worked. Some parts of the painting I used the oil as an aquarel, in other parts as an expressionist landscape.

I mostly paint figurative style with abstract and surrealistic parts. My themes are not ordinary, i love to show the hidden sides of things with special lights or compositions. There are lots of my works in private collections: Banks, Artcollectors, Businessmen. There are some publications about my art, and i have an art catalog of my painting (Printed in 2016, published by King St. Stephen Museum, Hungary), I took part of ArtFairs since 2011, and on contemporary Auctions. Some words about my art from others: People without Present – the World of Szabolcs Szolnoki Fluttering apparitions in the blurring background. They are there and are not at the same time. Szabolcs Szolnoki’s pictures are as they were strange visions. Visions, as the mainly rough and glazing painting style lends a dreamlike suspicion to the mostly static scenes. Absence and the emphasis of the things that are not present are determinant in the stories teetering on the edge of reality and fantasy. Absence means the absence of humans (‘Office’, ‘Dodgem’, ‘the Couch’) who are there somewhere in the picture sometimes yet cannot really be seen, whether it is the character of ’HM, the Portrait of the Businessman’, ‘Interrogation’, ‘Hope’, ‘Man with a Plant’, ‘The Distorted Young Businessman’, ‘Man with a Cat’, ’The Patriot’, ‘Room with a View’ or ‘ Blue Room’. While basically the images are happening in an internal space, yet the presence of animals (a cat, a pig, a dog or a horse) and plants are frequent. In the ‘Office’ e.g. you can see a huge plant instead of the clerks working there. Apparently, plants and animals would rather take possession gently of these inhabited fields dominated fundamentally by humans i.e. they might substitute humans as they do in the ‘Office’ or in ‘Pigs’ Revolt’. Szolnoki is distinctly a painterly man and in this blurring painting technique we can connect him with Gerhard Richter and the painters of the New Leipzig or Cluj Schools. Considering the picture area cut into pieces David Schnell and Martin Kobe can be compared to him, the latter one regarding the vivid colours, as well. A.B.
