ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist." "I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a guy nailed to two pieces of wood." "If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten." "Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town." "If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little." -George Carlin "The characteristic human trait is not awareness but conformity, and the characteristic result is religious warfare. Other animals fight for territory or food; but, uniquely in the animal kingdom, human beings fight for their ‘beliefs’.” "I'd rather see artificial intelligence than no intelligence.” "Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled." "I am certain there is too much certainty in the world." "We all live every day in virtual environments, defined by our ideas." -Michael Crichton "I'm sorry, if you were right, I'd agree with you." "People say satire is dead. It's not dead; it's alive and living in the White House." "Never pick a fight with an ugly person, they've got nothing to lose." "No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." -Robin Williams "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." "If somebody thinks they're a hedgehog, presumably you just give 'em a mirror and a few pictures of hedgehogs and tell them to sort it out for themselves." "Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." "I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be." -Douglas Adams "There is no such thing as death; life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves." "The best kind of comedy to me is when you make people laugh at things they've never laughed at, and also take a light into the darkened corners of people's minds, exposing them to the light." "If you're so pro-life, do me a favour: don't lock arms and block medical clinics. If you're so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries." "Children are smarter than any of us. Know how I know that? I don't know one child with a full time job and children." "I'm sorry if any of you are Catholic. I'm not sorry if you're offended, I'm actually just sorry by the fact that you're Catholic." "When two or more people agree on an issue, I form on the other side.” -Bill Hicks "Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge." "We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." "The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent.” "The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition." "Personally, I would be delighted if there were a life after death, especially if it permitted me to continue to learn about this world and others, if it gave me a chance to discover how history turns out." -Carl Sagan

I’m (I am?) a self-taught artist, originally from the north suburbs of Chicago (also known as John Hughes' America). Born in 1984, I started painting in 2017 and began to take it somewhat seriously in 2019. I currently reside in rural Montana and live a secluded life with my three dogs - Pebbles (a.k.a. Jaws, Brandy, Fang), Bam Bam (a.k.a. Scrat, Dinki-Di, Trash Panda, Dug), and Mystique (a.k.a. Lady), and five cats - Burglekutt (a.k.a. Ghostmouse Makah), Vohnkar! (a.k.a. Storm Shadow, Grogu), Falkor (a.k.a. Moro, The Mummy's Kryptonite, Wendigo, BFC), Nibbler (a.k.a. Cobblepot), and Meegosh (a.k.a. Lenny). Part of the preface to the 'Complete Works of Emily Dickinson helps sum me up as a person and an artist: "The verses of Emily Dickinson belong emphatically to what Emerson long since called ‘the Poetry of the Portfolio,’ something produced absolutely without the thought of publication, and solely by way of expression of the writer's own mind. Such verse must inevitably forfeit whatever advantage lies in the discipline of public criticism and the enforced conformity to accepted ways. On the other hand, it may often gain something through the habit of freedom and unconventional utterance of daring thoughts. In the case of the present author, there was no choice in the matter; she must write thus, or not at all. A recluse by temperament and habit, literally spending years without settling her foot beyond the doorstep, and many more years during which her walks were strictly limited to her father's grounds, she habitually concealed her mind, like her person, from all but a few friends; and it was with great difficulty that she was persuaded to print during her lifetime, three or four poems. Yet she wrote verses in great abundance; and though brought curiosity indifferent to all conventional rules, had yet a rigorous literary standard of her own, and often altered a word many times to suit an ear which had its own tenacious fastidiousness." -Thomas Wentworth Higginson "Not bad... you say this is your first lesson?" "Yes, but my father was an *art collector*, so…"
