Alicja Pruchniewicz, born in 1993, is a Polish visual artist. She creates large-scale digitally inspired abstract canvases that explore saturated colours, and geometric and organic shapes. Pruchniewicz takes her inspiration largely from her immediate surroundings and from the mundane, everyday aspects of contemporary society. The virtual world, social media and communications are fascinating to Pruchniewicz. Her works engage with the way that the virtual and digital world influences how we perceive our surroundings and imagery. When it comes to process and creative techniques, Pruchniewicz has her own specific method for creating canvases. The shapes of her actual canvases and indeed the forms depicted on the canvas are inspired by rough drawings that she quickly sketches. Pruchniewicz will then scale these drawings and transform them into large abstracted acrylic paintings. Artist on the Rise Pruchniewicz has presented her work in a solo exhibition, ‘The hidden dimension of painting’, in her native Poland in 2018. In 2017 she received the Polish Ministry of Culture Award and was included in the Kassel exhibition during Documenta 14 at Transmission Art Festival.
