I was inspired for this work by my experience with mental illness, which I portrayed in a way inspired by Picasso's blue period. I've come to realise that the vipers in my head disproportionately strike at night for no apparent reason. This phenomenon made me think that it's something to do with the absence of natural light at that time of day, which led to the idea for this painting. The central theme of the work is that the central figure (me or anyone else) is indoors as the sun goes down, and all the light and people are being drained into the light like a black hole, which is often how I feel when I'm staying in for the night. I'm hoping to of captured this feeling and sensation with this image, so that others can look at it and gain insight into my perspective on life. The distorted visuals were implemented for the purpose of mimicking my own distorted thoughts and mindset when I have none of my friend to talk with and the outside world just seems so twisted. Frame/hanging hardware not included.
