About The Artwork

Daybreak 3 explores that moment at daybreak when first light meets with the ocean creating a sense of peace and harmony. The restricted palette of blues (with a touch of pink) represent the sky and its reflections, capturing a time when the ocean is still and silent. I paint many layers to create depth, and I mix the paint with water to move it around on the canvas. This allows a sense of the unknown, resulting a fluidity which can not be predicted.

Anita Jokovich is an abstract painter who uses the ocean, sky and its surrounds as inspiration for her work. Her paintings are intuitive and gestural, creating forms that appear and disappear amongst layers of paint; allowing the viewer to be immersed and inspired by imaginative thought. The technique of layering paint to create dark and light are likened to the perpetual motion of the water and this layered style shows the contrasts the calm and brutal forces of the sea. Anita conveys an emotional intensity in her work through the painting process to portray divergent emotions onto the canvas. In 2015, Anita was part of the Waverley Artist in Residency program at the Waverley School of Arts. Anita holds a Bachelor of Arts, and a Post Graduate Diploma, both in Design from Curtin University, Perth and has an extensive background as a Creative Director for print media.
