ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A portrait of francis Bacon. I became obsessed with the idea of remnants. The impact we have on other people. Remnants of Presence, marks left behind. I began painting Artists Who Have Inspired Me with a Focus on Capturing Their Energy or "essence", Representing my own Version of Them. The Idea of painting an Artist who has Inspired Me, Using the influence I Have taking from them Really Intrigued Me. Bacon has a Strong presence. This Influenced How I Painted the Figure, Juxtaposing Expressive painterly gestures whilst Maintaining a Level of Control Within The Face. I Chose to Work on Metal as I Became Interested in the Idea of Instability, everything is in constant Flux. The steel is a Beautifully Raw, Industrial Material that Oxidises and Changes throughout Time. The Paint Will Slide, Peel, Flake and the metal Will Rust. The Painting Will Not Remain the Same, It Is Uncontrollable and Forever Changing... Like us.
