ABOUT THE ARTWORK
To date all depictions in art that I’be come across of the assassination of Julius Caesar on the Ides of March have been staged more like a theatrical depiction, as if the viewer was watching a production of Shakespeare’s play. With this piece I wanted to use a different approach to force the viewer to be front and centre; they are in fact Brutus. Caesar is looking directly at them, the viewer, in disbelief and betrayal. The use of a mirrored acrylic for the viewer’s sword further puts them in the picture. The original artwork is awaiting vanishing and will be available for purchase thereafter in September 2021.
