Dog in a Car is a small 8x10 piece made in a quick, intuitive session. The shapes came fast—loose marks, bright color, and silver paint moving around each other until the composition settled. In an era of algorithms and infinite revisions, Bil Chamberlin embraces the irreversible. Drawing on a 30-year career in digital design and 3D for brands like IBM, Samsung, and NetApp, he channels rigorous precision into the raw, tactile language of paint. A Maryland Institute College of Art graduate and former Walt Disney Feature Animation intern, Chamberlin—now based in Colorado—has cultivated a studio practice that bridges digital control and painterly risk. His large-scale works pulse with layered energy: bold geometric bands, rhythmic dots, and vibrant fields of turquoise, lavender, electric pink, and brooding blues, disrupted by spontaneous gestures. Pieces like *Rain Over There* (48 × 75 in.), *Eight* (49.5 × 60 in.), and *Stockholm 67* (48 × 60 in.) evoke coded landscapes and luminous tension. Playful figuratives—*Skateboard Elephant*, *Pink Elephant*, *Woman on a Bicycle*, and *Dog in a Car*—infuse humor and joy, grounding the abstractions in human wonder. Using recycled “oops” paints and found materials, Chamberlin layers, erases, and reveals, creating surfaces rich with memory and time. His process reflects our mediated yet deeply human lives. With works gaining traction on Saatchi Art, Chamberlin is an emerging voice at the intersection of intuition and design—where painting feels vividly alive.
