This painting depicts an outdoor fruit and vegetable market in a small village in Provence, France. These markets are typically held once a week, where shoppers and sellers meet. I just couldn’t resist the pile of tomato’s in the foreground!

Hi! My name is Joel Goldman. I’m from the New York City area and now reside in Northern New Jersey I’ve been painting in oil for over 25 years. My inspiration is from the endless beauty and variety in the natural world. My goal is to create art that imbues this. Nature guides my paintbrush!. My mentors were the late S. Allyn Schaefer for landscape painting and Enrique Flores-Galbis for figure and portraiture. Early on, I painted “en plein air” at sites throughout Northern New Jersey. Now I paint exclusively in my dedicated studio. Stylistically, I use Impressionistic techniques to capture a motif with many dabs of color applied quickly to evoke spontaneity and freshness. My paintings are representational. I use high key colors to make my paintings exciting. I am inspired by the Norwegian Impressionist artist, Frits Thaulow, the finest painter of water. I am inspired, too, by the California Impressionist painter Granville Redmond, who created many paintings of fields of California poppies and other flowers. Check out my paintings of reflecting water. Check, too, my paintings of California wildflower fields. These paintings are in the list of my art works, the majority of which have been tagged as “favorites.” Art was a mid-life turn for me. Previously, I received a Doctorate in Mathematics and Engineering from Cornell University. Hence, the Dr in my name. I was a scientist at the world-renowned Bell Telephone Laboratories where I received many accolades and patents. Then — I caught the art bug. And that has made all the difference! I hope that my collectors enjoy my paintings as much as the enjoyment I had in creating them!
