About The Artwork
This image is one of a series of 'breath' paintings I have been making during lockdown in London, UK. The significance of breath has been so much on our minds at this time. To cope with anxiety and uncertainty, I have been practicing 20 minutes of deep breathing exercises every day. I started to think about boundaries - those imposed upon us and those which we impose upon ourselves. Working with inks I found myself allowing the colours and shapes to flow in a freer way than before, working intuitively, never really knowing how they would turn out. So often I have taken the extraordinary life giving action of breathing for granted - I felt the need to honour it. This painting is created on top quality society of watercolour 450gm paper.

Sara Willett graduated in 2002 from Camberwell College of Art, London, with a first class BA honours in Painting and later gained a Masters in Fine Art there; graduating in 2011. She exhibits regularly in the UK, Europe and Asia Her work is held in collections, in the UK, USA, Australia, Japan and Europe. She was short listed for the Sunny International Art Prize in 2018. Her practise incorporates, painting, installation, and sound. She has been awarded two fully supported residencies at the Da Wang Culture Highland centre, in South East China in 2015 and 2013. In 2016 she was awarded a fully supported residency with Being 3 Gallery, Beijing, which culminated in a solo exhibition, City Kaleidoscope.
