ABOUT THE ARTWORK

" Dreamer" There she sits, daydreaming. Everything is now passing her by, away from the hectic life. How nice to take some time for yourself every now and then and withdraw into your own fantasy world. The original painting is available from April 2022. The series of portraits I make are about feeling and emotion. They all radiate something different, but they have many recognizable facial expressions. I paint intuitively from my feelings. What dominates at that moment then spontaneously ends up on the paper or canvas. I hope to be able to give you something with my work, for example recognition, peace, cheerfulness or freedom. If my art touches you then it has acquired value and meaning.

“Where words are sometimes lacking, color and shapes fill that in for me. I play with it like a writer plays with sentences, or a cook with ingredients”. My work is a constant search for balance. I need structure, but I'm terrified of boring. To find a way around this I try to simplify the complexity of life through my art. What do I need now? What is superfluous? It is a constant game of adding & subtracting, of controlling & letting go. The framed shapes give me structure and tranquility. The colors create tension. This is how I try to create the perfect balance. It is a beautiful and sometimes complicated process. As a child I was already attracted by the dynamics of colors and planes. It is therefore not surprising that I attended the University of the Arts in Utrecht and graduated here in 1996. After that I started working as a fashion designer, stylist, designer and trend watcher. In all these disciplines I was also constantly working on color, form and composition. The love for this is simply in my DNA. Nowadays I work full time as an artist
