ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This was conceived of in April of 2016. Feminism was at the front and center of my focus at the time, specifically regarding women of color. My privilege was something I was trying to visualize, and realizing that while white women suffer oppression, women of color suffer it that much more. There was something here, being connected to a chain, a structure, a value system created by white men. White women have access to that chain, women of color do not. That's what I was hoping to achieve in this painting.
