I was inspired by my surroundings and the condition of my country to create this piece. This work depicts the catastrophes in India during my 5 months there. The crowd of people on the bottom right of the painting shows the migrant workers who faced multiple hardships due to the pandemic. During the lockdown they were stranded outside their native places wanting to go back. They were desperate and out of money so many walked and some took trains. The collapsed bus on the bottom left depicts the floods in West Bengal and Assam that damaged the areas. The top left corner shows a small town where covid checks are taking place. The panda eating the map of India represents the India-China conflict in which 20 soldiers were killed. The locusts seen throughout the painting invaded vast parts on India affecting crops and livelihood. I hope the viewers feel the distress and suffering in India amidst the pandemic. Seeing the news and reading through magazines influenced me to make this painting.
