Bulls blood human hair and urine are some of the ancient ingredient found in Scagliola. The Romans who first invented the art of pigmented plaster that could be applied to almost anything.. It was later developed in the 17th century in Italy. In the 1930s Scagliola had a revival in America and new techniques were developed and was dubbed american Scagliola. I find this medium full of endless possibility. it can be applied to almost anything. it can be molded. cut. sculpted, inlaid, impasto, or polished to a high gloss to resemble marble. I have developed a way of making the tablets light enough to hang on a wall, I call them tablets because they resemble a marble stone like quality. I have become fascinated with marbling techniques because its so natural and has an element of supersize. my interests in the technique can also be found on my paintings on canvas.
