About The Artwork

Ecce Homo: Original acrylic painting on stretched canvas. The artwork measures 24x36. " His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness--And he will startle many nations. Kings will stand speechless in his presence. For they will see what they had not been told; they will understand what they had not heard about." Isaiah 52:14-15 We must not forget the dual nature of Christ - human and divine. Ecce Homo, Pontius Pilate said, presenting Jesus to the crowd - Behold the man! He is the same Jesus of the Transfiguration. Just earlier He was revealing His full glory on the mountain and then He walked down the mountain into our everyday lives. I think this is the deepest Transfiguration. If on the mountain He showed us a glimpse into the Glory of God, here as the Man of Sorrows He shows us a glimpse into His love and mercy. The Holy Face of Jesus devotion had a great influence. I used the same beautiful text in the painting as it is on the Holy Face Medal: "Illumina, Domine, vultum tuum super nos" - Shine, Lord, your face upon us (Ps 67:1) or even more beautifully said: "Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved." Psalm 80:3 The artwork is finished with a matte protective varnish. Ready to hang!

I am a visual artist, living and working in Lansing, Michigan, US Drawing is my primary medium, although I often incorporate in my work a wider variety of mediums and techniques: encaustic painting, printmaking, digital illustration and painting, photography and alternative photography, metal/wood and fabric. Constantly experimenting with new techniques, my work expands and acquires new dimensions. Byzantine painting, christian philosophy and the work of philosopher and historian of religions, Mircea Eliade, deeply influence my work. As a subject matter, the human dimension defines my interest and represents the main inspiration source. My travels around the country and also visiting back with my home country (Romania) offers me a great source of inspiration, as well as my everyday experiences and interactions with people. I focus on subtle generalities, common intimacies, and general valid truths, as: love, longing, death, hope– which will never become over-used subjects, because they are eternally embedded in human nature and we will always identify with them.
