ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The other side of war. Shortly after the start of the conflict in Ukraine, the alarm went off in the Vienna office of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe). The OSCE division that deals with combating human trafficking has noticed an increase in online searches for sexual content related to Ukrainian women and girls. In different languages depending on the country, searches for keywords such as "escort", "porn" or "rape" together with the word "Ukrainian" increased by 600%. Top Trending Search: The equivalent of "Ukrainian porn refugee". In Sweden, where prostitution has been decriminalized, but paying for sexual practices is prohibited, 37 men were arrested in March 2022 for trafficking in human beings and 30 of them had tried to recruit Ukrainian women for illegal activities by deception, only a month after the start of the war.
