ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I have wanted to paint an elephant for a while! So I painted two! Elephants are magnificent animals. Strong. Smart. Social. Elephants look prehistoric to me. Perhaps that is why folks love elephants. And, all those wrinkles! Folks think of elephants as the color gray, but they are so much more! They take on different colors because they are always spraying themselves with the surface under their feet! So, they tend to get covered with whatever is on the ground beneath them! The painting I am presenting to you, the elephants have the riverbed mud all over them, so - yes, they are covered with the river mud! I also love the way the elephants are snuggling in this painting. If you haven’t read “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen or “Leaving Time” by Jodi Picoult. I highly recommend! Both books depict the elephants' lives and how humans affect them. My reference photo for this painting is from Unsplash by Craig Pretorius. As always, I hope my paintings communicate the most important art of all — the art of being human and appreciating all the creatures on our earth. Please enjoy this painting as much as I enjoy creating it. Let me know your thoughts!

Wife, mom, artist, graphic designer, bookworm! “Art brings people together.” With my paintings, I tell stories that cross traditional barriers such as gender, age, income, education & race to help us understand the most important art of all — "The art of being human.” "Every Painting Tells a Story." I love to paint people. The human face and figure is the most captivating subject for me. I enjoy painting the snippets of life. Capturing folks enjoying a summer afternoon in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia or children having summer fun in a city park. I paint everyday people and moments in life. The goal of my work is to make a connection with the viewer. I hope in some small way, my work sends a message out into the world. A message of hope, of change and of social justice. I hope, that when my art hangs in your home, it provokes thought and meaning to you. Awards • I am honored to have received a "Knight Foundation" cash honorarium in connection with the Free Library of Philadelphia's Cultureshare program. • Best Emerging Artist. 2019 Manayunk Arts Festival. • Honorable Mention. 2018 Manayunk Arts Center Annual Juried Show. • "Philadelphia Stories."
