Paola Zayas-Bazán (1989) is a Puerto Rican artist whose creative production revolves around the female psyche, presented as contemporary visual narratives. Paola explores the dark sides of life, isolation, nostalgia, melancholia, existentialism and spiritualism through esthetic ambiguity. Though a figurative painter, her focus has always been in the symbolism of her artwork and atmospheric wistfulness rather than the realistic portrayal of the elements. The compositions in her work are often presented in a dream or limbo-like state, with elements of surrealism as an attempt to reach beyond language and the written word in order to tackle emotional dilemmas usually shunned from the collective view.
