ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Because of the war in Ukraine in the spring, I had to leave my native home and my garden, which I adored and which was my inspiration. This event happened the main topic in my work. In fact, this is where the problem of forced migration lies. Emotional difficulties associated with this. Longing and sadness for one's garden, nature, home is the main theme of creativity. Flowers are a symbol of revival, hope for restoration and prosperity of Ukraine, hopes for a peaceful and prosperous life, where there will be no sounds of explosions and black smoke, but birds singing and a blooming garden outside the window. "When I start a new painting, I always act intuitively, creating colour composition, spots and textures. It is important for me to be completely free and not limited to anything in the first stage, I am convinced that art is a game, which brings pleasure and at the same time a journey that leads to a certain destination. And it is there that the more conscious construction of the composition begins, the application of paint in layers, creating the depth and richness of the surface. In my works, color is an independent expression, the main violin, and composition and textures are the means to help the whole orchestra sound. A painting is ready to hang and varnished.

I am Katia Solodka and I am a professional full-time artist from Ukraine. Since the war started, I have moved to the Netherlands and work here. The main subject in my work is abstract flowers and beautiful gardens. Because flowers are the greatest aesthetic pleasure and my inspiration, few things can be compared with the beauty of flowers and their colors. The paintings are made in my original painting technique, which makes the style recognizable and expressive. I use a palette knife to create texture and volume, as well as expressive splatter strokes to create a sense of movement and energy. It is always more important for me to convey the impression and emotion of the subject than the subject itself. Therefore, there is a hint of flowers in my works, but the goal is to convey the smell of flowers. I take my inspiration from the emotions and impressions of the beauty of nature around me, which are poured onto the canvas with expressive colors. I think art is very important in these difficult times. People need beauty and aesthetic pleasure more than ever, so I will be happy to share my blooming paintings with the world to bring more beauty and bright colors to someone's life. It gives me the greatest pleasure to paint large canvases, where I can more dynamically convey expression, more successfully distribute the light and depth of the composition, and with the help of broad brushes and movements, I can convey the mood of the painting.
